Macaburlesque Takes Melville: An Immersive Night at Chiesa di PAZZO LUPi

We recently had the opportunity to interview the creative force behind one of the most talked-about performances in the city. Talooh-la-la sat down with us to deconstruct the “provocative and unconventional” magic of Macaburlesque, sharing insights into how they are redefining the local performance art scene one spooky character at a time.

The energy in Melville was nothing short of electric. According to Talooh-la-la, the audience was spectacular, warm, and enthusiastic – the perfect match for a show designed to be an antidote to conventionality and narrow-mindedness. The demand for something different is clearly there; the performance was so impactful that several audience members have already asked to join the cast for the upcoming show in October. It seems the eclectic spirit of the neighbourhood found its kindred spirits on stage.

The choice of venue played a massive role in the night’s success. Performing at the intimate Chiesa di PAZZO LUPi allowed for a fully immersive experience that blurred the lines between the stage and the seats. Talooh-la-la noted that the space offered complete creative freedom, utilizing every inch of the interior and exterior to make the audience feel cozy and relaxed. This intimacy transformed a “full house” into a shared, chaotic, and beautiful moment that a vast, formal theater simply couldn’t replicate.

Reflecting on the highlights, the night was a whirlwind of memorable imagery – from a plague doctor and a fire-dancing nun to a moth and a bunny magician. While the Uncle Fester striptease was a crowd favorite, Talooh-la-la pointed to the “haunted hotel” group number as the definitive moment of the night. It was an explosion of energy that allowed every performer to shine. Stay tuned for more, because if this show was any indication, the October revival is going to be legendary.
