Red Bull BC One Kicks Off Its 18th Years of Breaking Excellence

The Red Bull BC One regional qualifier launched with a bang on January 25, at Braamfontein Playground, kicking off the 18th year of this iconic breaking competition in South Africa.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement as fans gathered to witness South Africa’s top b-boys compete for supremacy. Hip-hop artist Kane Keid energized the crowd with an exciting performance that captured the essence of the culture throughout the night.

B-Boy Swae_V stole the spotlight, dazzling judges and fans alike with his precision and dynamic moves to claim victory. After his victory, Swae_V expressed, “I feel positive and driven. My next aim is to win the national competition on March 29 and potentially represent South Africa in Tokyo.” His triumph marks the beginning of an exciting journey as he sets his sights on the national finals.

Red Bull BC One transformed the breaking scene when it first appeared in Biel, Switzerland, almost twenty years ago, establishing a stage that honors uniqueness and creativity. In its 18th year, the 2025 series maintains this legacy with regional cyphers in Port Elizabeth on February 1 and Cape Town on February 8, leading to the National Final on March 29, 2025.

The inclusion of breaking in the Paris 2024 Olympics has confirmed its dual status as a sport and an art form, and Red Bull BC One South Africa 2025 recognises this progression by highlighting intense competition and grassroots growth. The event has become a fundamental part of South Africa’s breaking scene by molding a generation of top-tier talent, such as B-boy Vouks, B-boy Benny and B-girl Courtnea Paul.
